Font embedding

Post by Hollowghoul »

Greetings.

I tried to embed a font in my site using Microdoft WEFT to create a .eot file that went into the same directory as the test page, that is, "webpages".
As for the roots, I included the URL of my site and that of Comicgenesis, with and without initial "www" and the directory in my PC.

To test the page I deleted the font in my PC, and tried to load the page: unfortunately the text I wrote appeared in common Times New Roman.
When I tried to open the copy of the page I had in my hard disk, however, it worked perfectly, showing the font I wanted.

Now, I can only surmise that, since the page works in my PC and its duplicate stored in the server does not, I have made a mistake in setting the roots that are supposed to request the .eot file.

Can you please help me with an example of a working embedded font ?
With sincere thanks

Ghoul

It should work if you have it addressed properly.

While IE may still support Embedded OpenType fonts in web pages, Firefox has dropped support for it (there's a bug out for supporting it and Bitstream/Netscape's TrueDoc fonts).

With Firefox gaining traction, it's best not to use EOT/TrueDoc fonts for any major stretch of text. If your comic only uses it for various titles and whatnot, maybe putting them pre-rendered in JPG or PNG format will be best.

Are .pfr files not supported as well?

That's TrueDoc. While you can have it on your Comic Genesis account, they won't be used by Firefox or Mozilla until they fix that bug, and the major browser vendors (Microsoft, Apple, KDE, Mozilla Corp, Opera Software) get together and work on a embedded font standard.

Well, I was just trying to give a better look to my journal. I guess I'll have to work with the usual fonts.

Thanks for the tips.
