Re: Black & White Webcomics Still Viable?
And I think it depends on, when you're coloring digitally, how much detail you're putting in. Which is what Samuli was talking about, really simplifying the coloring process to just the basics in order to cut time and improve the way the comic looks. Yeah, that's exactly it. The 30 minute process i...

Re: 26 tips for new Webcomics plus one
Use real-life photos for reference images. I'd go one step further: Use real-life people for reference. Abuse the help of friends, get a big mirror and maybe a camera. Way quicker than google for simple poses (you can spend hours looking for a good shot). And as a bonus you get to accessorise your ...

Re: Black & White Webcomics Still Viable?
Merely pointing out the big advantage you digital guys have over traditional guys like myself. Since I work with both digital and traditional media, I have to say IMHO the only real advantage to colouring in digital is more choice and undo. As for cost, I would have to go through a truckload of pap...

Re: Morgan & Dante – Classic outer space jungle adventure
Thanks guys, that's very kind of you!
I was originally going for a 70-80's vibe in the comic but I keep slipping back a couple of decades… don't know what's up with that. Even the ad says it's the sixties but I think that's a bit optimistic.

Morgan & Dante will now be a weekly strip
All right, now this is the time I've been dreading. Morgan & Dante has come to a point where all the old stuff is out, and we're moving into brand new material. So, for that reason Morgan & Dante will from now on be updated once a week on Monday. Hopefully I'll be able to keep up with the schedule! ...

Morgan & Dante – Classic outer space jungle adventure
http://www.samulisiirala.net/comics/md-promo2.gif Morgan & Dante – The Eye of the Serpent now has over 80 strips online. You can expect a light-hearted adventure and more than a little meaning to the word "classic". If you like Flash Gordon or Star Wars, or just nice-looking, intelligent people con...

Re: need tips and critique on my comic
i just googled for "font for comics" and came up with this: http://www.blambot.com/font_digitalstrip.shtml . Does it seem good? btw. why do many comics write in all-caps? is it some readability thing? Everybody's using blambot. They're good. Yes, all caps it's a readability thing, hand lettering in...

Re: need tips and critique on my comic
You mentioned these yourself: 2. The text is way too small, I can't read it – or could if I REALLY wanted to but it's just too much effort. You are trying to fit too much text in too small a space. 2. Your hand lettering is also difficult to read because the letter spaces are too wide and the word s...

...getting into debates. It stresses me out and I'm no good at debate anyway. Now, that's just not true. I bet you can't come up with a single argument to support that theory! … being argumentative. … delaying going to sleep to get more awake-time, which I then spend on sleeping until noon. … telli...

Re: Who here likes to draw elves?
I'm proven to like drawing elves ! :) But I probably don't do it correctly for the Tolkienists and formalists out there, I guess I'm more of a ballet-school elf kind of guy. Well, actually they could be fairies too, there's a lot of overlap in mythology. Sadly, I too can't help out at the moment for...

Re: My new web comic: Path of the Necromancer.
I absolutely love the stark b&w and stick figures together. The style works best when you have strong diagonals and lots of dynamic in the composition. Won't work too well with symmetric and centred compositions. I would probably use stronger perspective and lose the grayscale gradients as they seem...

Re: Query: Reading your own comic?
And in fact, that's the beauty of webcomics. The reader gets to see the slow transformation. What other place can you be given such an awesome opportunity? Um, yeah… I usually read the archive when I'm trying to convince myself that I just have to do an old crap panel over again to make it shiny an...

Re: Whispering Balloon in Photoshop? (SOLVED)
But your dashes are all uneven... That's why it looks so goood :) I've always hated the machine-produced sterilised look of dashed strokes. But take a few more seconds with the white brush and it'll be close enough. Just to be clear, the previous solution probably works better if you want perfect m...

Re: Whispering Balloon in Photoshop? (SOLVED)
Ok, since this is solved I can go ahead and say the obvious – use Illustrator or Indesign. Make the bubble, drag it over as a smart object, end of story. Or this in PS. 1. Draw the balloon as a white area. (start recording action here) 2. Layer effects - stroke 3. Make an empty new layer below the b...

Re: Where do you draw the line between manga and western style?
So when I say that I don't really care about the gray area...I don't. What matters to me, at least, is that I'm sick to DEATH of the anime/manga style, and have been for quite some time. I wanna see it toned back for a while, gray area or no, so I can like it again. Some moderation... please. Sorry...

Re: Where do you draw the line between manga and western style?
As for WINX, Italians are *rabid* about their anime and manga. But they also have their own cartoons. You'll find its a meld of both anime influences and old Italian cartoons. Why can something only be "anime" or "not anime" now? Especially after walls of text took the time to tell you that there's...

Re: Where do you draw the line between manga and western style?
Manga comes with a fairly specific set of eye, mouth, and head shapes...even some fashion styles and poses as well. That's what I was talking about when I said it's strictly defined. But not everyone seems to think so. I'm kind of interested in the gray area, because in some cases the line has to b...

Where do you draw the line between manga and western style?
I've been wondering about this question for a long time. Manga seems to be a fairly strictly defined genre with many sub-categories. But where does the big border between manga and western style comics go? What separates Donald Duck from Japanese speaking animals? For the sake of argument, let's for...

Re: Mint Condition - My Webcomic
I'm so over that pseudo-anime/manga look I may need to alter my art style...I could have sworn once I started into that style that (hey this doesn't look anime at all!). At least that's what I thought...I hate anime. So I may need to work on that to get even further from anime as possible. This int...
