Re: Talk to me about your influences.
I was actually going to mention David Mack as well but didn't get round to it. Honestly if I mentioned EVERYONE who's inspired me- have you seen the recent Kabuki stuff though? Guys a genius, but is kind of slacking off. Like I should talk.

Re: Talk to me about your influences.
So that's what I've been doing for the last couple months. . . powering up! My writer's been bailing me out and it shows. Ah well that ends this coming update. My earliest art influences were widespread. As a kid I loved Edward Hopper. I loved how everything he did told a story in a picture and you ...

Re: Have you ever got hit by the Trolls?
It's hard to deal with that kind of thing. But in this case, it could be a good thing for you. These people are trashing you, but it's possible that of all the people they're sending your way, some people might actually like what you do. It's not an ideal way for anyone to find out about you, but it...

Re: Creative Breakthroughs
This coming issue will be a wonder to behold because of my most recent EUREKA! moment which actually came as a result of my writer buying my supplies for me. He didn't know exactly what to get, so got me a Pitt manga marker set and a bunch of greyscale watercolor pencils. PITT pens are waterproof. ....

Re: How serious are you?
Let's hear it for thread necromancy. On a forum I moderate elsewhere, I love it when people do this. Makes stirring up conversation on slow months that much easier. I am serious-ish. I value my comic, I try to get it out on time, and usually fail because I am in a pretty intensive course of study at...

Re: Alternative to Sable Hair Inking Brush?
I hate it when they stop making something that I really like, which always seems to happen just as i decide I really like it. Because of this, I have taken to making my own everything, when all else fails. Cut reeds are my favorite pens. Egg tempera is my favorite paint. My favorite gesso involves c...

Re: Alternative to Sable Hair Inking Brush?
Thanks. I got a very necessary chuckle out of "terribad". I have found some pretty good brushes at odd little shops in neighborhoods where nobody speaks english. This is the calligraphy section of the much larger version of those. Is it any use to you? http://www.pearlriver.com/v2/FramesCat.asp?iGro...

Re: Hand Drawn Vrs Digital
I was told this weekend that traditional art in webcomics was "dying out." Anyone have opinions on this? I don't believe it. (It was right before a panel were two out of three of the artists did traditional o_O ) I do think digital art is very popular, and I see more coloured comics use digital, bu...

[quote="Mercury Hat"]I might be reading it wrong but I think wendy was talking to the OP, not you. Don't be so defensive that you fire off when you don't even know if someone's saying something to you or not :I You're right. It was stated right after my comment and so i jumped to conclusions. Re: Hand Drawn Vrs Digital
Wendybird. . . who said this was a crit thread? Did I offend you in some way that you need to beat that dead horse AGAIN? I do vary my line thicknesses, and have ever since it was pointed out to me that I should. Point taken, it looks better. Moreover, I did vary my line thicknesses before, but for ...

Re: Hand Drawn Vrs Digital
What is most important for me when reading a comic is that the artist is using the medium that he or she is most comfortable using. If you like what you're doing, it shows. I will say that I tend to gravitate towards hand done comics, though, because in general, they stand out more. Koad's work, for...

Re: Ridiculous comic ban
Given that people often come out more educated in these matters than they went in, I'd say the prison board needs to spend less time worrying about a funny book and more time wondering what they're doing wrong. I'd think one of the reasons that comic would be enjoyable to the inmates would be scenes...

Re: Asking for criticism (Imaginary Daughter)
Fabriano's pretty good too. I linked the list because things like Canson are on it- and they also make a good product, for a lot less. Let me know what you think of the tube colors when you get a chance to try them, if you will. I don't mean to be inflicting so much of my art supply snobbery on anot...

Are you using Arches cold press? Nothing beats it, but OW! My wallet! Other stuff exists. I looked up all the stuff that Utrecht (my favorite company) carries in blocks. Here's a link to a list.

Thanks, linkara. She's the kind of girl who is winning the war against pudgy genetics through muscle, for now. Skinny is not on the menu for some people, but that doesn't mean they can't be attractive.
I would like to know why it is that I am the only one in this entire thread who got a crit.

Re: When to Outline/Colour
Hah, figures. you can tell how much i've worked in markers I'm sure. It did not occur to me that you could do that, but of course you could. My next two issues were done in markers and I am kicking myself that I ever thought that was a good idea.
