Re: How are you doing, comic-wise?

Ohhh mannn.... I was thinking about posting in this thread and then I was like "Wait, this seems familiar. Didn't I post in this thread way back when everything was different?" Yeah, yeah I did. So, since then I have been taken over by a muse like a little artist-marionette. I started a new comic an...

Re: Mr, Ms, and Thing ComicGenesis Pageant 2012!

Ooh, I remember the pageant! I kind of want to enter a Mr. from my new comic, but I don't think formalwear exists in his universe. Also I haven't drawn him shirtless yet. I guess it has to happen at some point.

Re: How are you doing, comic-wise?

For me, drawing comics isn't just fun, it's a coping mechanism. So with all the sh*t going on in my life right now I am updating 2 comics for a total of 5 updates a week and a couple months' buffer on both. I don't really know how good they are or what people think of them. It's not so much that I'm...

Re: Searchable comics

I use piperka.net to read comics. It keeps track of where I am in all the comics I read. It can't handle all kinds of archives but it works well with the more-or-less standard archive styles like the one here on CG. I'm pretty happy with the reading experience I have there, with both story and gag c...

Re: How to draw ellipses?

A compass is a circle drawing machine which is basically just a pointy thing and a pencil hinged together. You can replicate one by attaching two pencils together at the back end with a rubber band, then jamming an object in between them and keeping it in place with another rubber band. You can move...

Re: Black & White Webcomics Still Viable?

@ OhEmGee Here is how I used to color comics in Paint. http://knol.google.com/k/basic-image-editing-for-webcomics#Using_MS_Paint_Well Now I generally use GIMP to ink, so I can duplicate my ink layer and use the pencil tool to enclose sections on the lower copy. I set my paint bucket to a tolerance o...

Re: Looking for an Editor.

I might have the time to do this. I have 2 other projects where I have this kind of role and some responsibility for the execution. I would love to try a project where I get to do the thinking and not the work. But in my experience, sometimes this kind of thing works, and sometimes people just can't...

Re: What do you like in a webcomic?

These are the things that help the most in getting me to keep reading a comic: It's clear what's going on through some combination of words and pictures that make some sort of sense. It's funny. Like, actually funny. There's that one mysterious/dark/cool character that inspires curiosity. I wonder w...

Re: A little bit of comic surgery required.

I'd say the best way to go for your audience is, first write and redraw the new sections, see that they fit in smoothly with the rest, then replace the old stuff all at once. This would require probably more patience than I have, though, since I'm motivated by an update schedule. The other option th...

Re: WRITING: What to call sci-fi money

A lot of sci-fi uses credits because they make sense in a culture with a virtual or "plastic" monetary system - everyone uses cards rather than cash. "credit" is already a term for a virtual amount of money a person is authorized to spend. Names for physical money come from all different places. If ...

Re: Who here likes to draw elves?

I got one for Monday, but I still need one for Thursday the 29th and I would like as many as I can get. A three-day vacation won't be enough to get all our stuff packed up and moved.

Edit: Got one for Thursday. No need to rush if you have something in the works. Monday the 2nd is the next free spot.

You could draw something with characters other than the twins. Like Olwynne and Mr. Cat. :P

I need as many comics as I can get. I have a couple of promises but no actual material yet. Thanks again guys!

Who here likes to draw elves?

I'm going to be moving house at the end of the month and I'm looking for some guest comics for The Elves of LleuGarnock. I will link back to your comic or art site. More details are here on my blog: http://wendybird.webcomicplanet.com/unc ... your-help/

Re: Query: Reading your own comic?

I would guess that I reread the LG archive approximately every time it's grown 50% larger than the last time I read through it. This means in the beginning I read it over all the time, but now I probably won't for another 6 months.

A few years ago I was working in a suburban ice cream shop north of Chicago. A guy came in and threatened me with a knife, so I gave him the money from the register. It was scary but mostly intensely surreal.

Re: Recurring themes, tropes, and habits in your writing

I realized recently that most of my major characters have mothers that are either absent or dead. This fascinates me. My mother was quite present and vital during my childhood. Maybe because of my mental/emotional problems as a child I'm more comfortable dealing with mother characters in the abstrac...

Re: Getting a weird FTP error

Where you have "comicgen" and "comcgen" in your post, you should have the full URL with "comicgenesis" in it. Try that if you haven't. That might be your problem. On a side note your signature code would work better if it went something like this: [url=http://familiarblue.comicgenesis.com]link text[...

Re: Merchandising

I'm currently switching my printing from Lulu to Kablam. Lulu definitely has the same problem that CafePress has where your basic little booklet costs more than anyone will pay for it to begin with. ComiXpress has decent pricing but I have heard Kablam has better quality. I have a cafepress store to...

Re: Good/cheap domain+hosting

I know that GoDaddy.com is good. I only use them for domain listing/forwarding and security, but that's reasonable, and with that comes a lot of free extras like a very basic form of hosting. I don't know if that would be sufficient for your purposes, and I don't remember their prices for their othe...
