Re: Gary Gygax is dead.

It's very sad. My thoughts are with his family.

Coincidentally, I'll be going to a gaming con this weekend - I bet there will be a couple of tribute one-shots going.

Re: Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse

As Max Brooks, the author of "The Zombie Survival Guide" states, two things: First, "organize before they rise," and second, "you don't have to reload a machete". In other words, be prepared, and don't rely fully on guns. You *will* run out of bullets eventually. Machetes are the way to go in melee ...

Re: Fan Service in comics: How much to give?

Considering that I draw an autobiographical comic? It'd be awkward and a little weird/gross to do fanservice of myself, Matt, or my sister . (She has naturally big breasts - she says she gets enough attention from just that.) About the closest I would get is Barry in a corset and cat ears. I'd like ...

I really enjoy Samurai Champloo and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. I also really like Excel Saga, Revolutionary Girl Utena, Coyote Ragtime Show, and Nerima Daikon Brothers. ...oh, and Lupin . Can't forget Lupin. :D If you have a group of friends who want to watch something, I suggest Shine...

My backgrounds depend on what I need for that scene; it also depends on the way the comic looks. Sometimes, I'll sketch a room and refine the linework; sometimes, I'll do the whole background on the PC; and sometimes, I'll incorporate bits and pieces of stock images or textures. Be careful of the ph...

I hate EA, but I am really excited about Spore and what it could be like.

Wouldn't surprise me if the date changed again, though.

Honestly, I don't think it's intended as an insult. I mean, comics are a visual media, and usually people will get pulled into a comic because of the way it looks. There's supposedly a scale of aesthetic criticism development that ranges from "hey that's pretty and therefore I like it" to "it's much...

There have been a number of Pixar works that didn't win anything - and while Lasseter was all over the Miyazaki films that got a nod, it usually takes a lot for any other animated film to beat that. Pixar's won before. I think they'll give Persepolis the award. That being said, I haven't seen Persepolis, but I really badly want to. I've seen the commercials, and they reflect the original artist's style in such a beautiful way. Plus, I loved both graphic novels, and even if it's not 100% the sam...

I've used Canon scanners for about six years, and I can honestly say that I'll continue to use them for many years to come. I currently have a CanoScan LiDE 70 that I got on discount from an Office Depot, and it has worked beautifully.

I'm used to having pretty large documents, since I work in print. I'll start a comic as (usually) a 2800 x 1200 pixel canvas at 600 dpi. 600 dpi is big, even for print (where resolution is normally 300 dpi), but I like keeping big files and shrinking them down. When I publish a comic to the web, I u...

I think it's silly. Can we have an experiment where men leave the town, too? It's stupid to think the town would fall apart without women, but it would be just as stupid to say that the men were unaffected by it. There's moms, sisters, significant others... ...there would be a different void there; ...

Brokeback Mountain was slow and agonizing. Great film in theory, and I hear an excellent book, but not so great in production. And Heath Ledger mumbled the entire friggin time! We needed subtitles! Subtitles for the Western accent impaired? I dunno, I understood "I wish I knew how to quit you." ......
