get a umax scanner. i'm assuming your dell came with usb support, as most do nowadays. the umax astra 2100u sells for about 79 dollars and is a nice, fast, reliable 8.5" x 11" (letter) bed scanner. the setup should be rather simple, as it is usb. as far as problems with the (ugh) twain32 thingamajig...
