Simple really. Good writing and regular updating. Those two will build a succesful webcomic every time. Few webcomics have one, very few have one.

Re: For those with comics- How long will it take you...
This sort of calculation is exactly why I gave up on long projects and decided I would focus on projects shorter than the length of a regular comic book (24 page), roughly I can do a page a week so I never undertake anything longer than six months.

Re: School Sued for Giving 1,800 Students Laptops...
So, an office of 30-40 people who's job it is to review footage from 1800 laptops. That's still assuming its even done by people and not with any help from automation. Sounds perfectly doable to me, the kind of thing you contract to a private firm. Needless to say, its horrible that they did this a...

Re: School Sued for Giving 1,800 Students Laptops...
Like most articles of this sort it is almost certainly complete nonsense. There are several possible ways to read the few actual statements of fact, only one of which corresponds with the 1984 spin the journalist has put on it. Just think about the logisitcs of remote operation, downloading, and rev...

I like the art, and the layout of the site, but I just didn't laugh at any of the punch-lines. You might want to consider getting a writer on-board for material.

Re: Feedback needed on my own font for comic lettering
I decided I would try creating my own font for my next project so spend the week sketching an idea up. Instead of using the autotrace function I followed the tutorial on how to put your own points in. Comparing the two the autotrace uses a lot more points, I think it over-fits itself to fairly small...

Re: Forsaken Stars - Critique Request
On a substantial number of pages I only get about 2/3 of the width of the page, which makes it hard to read. The writing seems okay but the art doesn't reflect it, its inconsistent and in black and white. I'd suggest revisiting the pages you presently have to redraw. Also you seem to have a penchant...

Re: Feedback needed on my own font for comic lettering
Well, that is quite a cool little tool. Had a quick go myself: http://kushan.org/scribbles/muchaonetest.jpg And realised there is a lot to learn. There are a huge amount of tutorials to read through. I suspect you did the same thing I did, which is hand draw the font then use the autotrace function ...

Looks okay. It has a very hand done, rather than the professional look of a blambot font. What program did you use to create it?

Artist looking for Writer
I am looking for a writer with a self-contained story (6 to 20 pages, preferably about 12). This can be a chapter of something else or a self-contained story, and I will handle all the art-work and lettering. I will also put it online but if you have your own website already I am happy for it to app...

Re: Demoralized Logic
I tried to read it but it just didn't make any sense. There seem to be random images and dialogue none of which really link togethor, and what is happening on one page doesn't seem to follow from what is happening on another. The main point of a comic is to communicate a story and it just isn't doin...

Artists Looking for Writer
I'm looking for a writer who would be interested in supplying a script for me to illustrate. My motivation is really just practice - it is far more challenging to give form to somebody elses vision as when you write for yourself you tend to write within your comfort zone as an artist. I have tried t...

Re: Sci-Fi Slang
Most of the slang I remember from Firefly was just standard English words that were either used in some slightly different way (like "shiny") or were mushed up a bit ("gorram" was clearly "goddam" said funky)...I actually specifically didn't list Firefly for that very reason; I'm trying to come up ...

Re: In-depth manga critique, please
Honestly, I think the biggest mistake many beginning artists make is picking up a "How to Draw Manga" book as their main beginning reference. How to Draw Manga books start with the same basic anatomy/proportions works as How to Draw the Marvel Way, which covers exactly the same ground as the classi...

I like the scribbled colour. Well, I say like it isn't my favourite but it does give the comic character. I think the problem is that the line work is very basic, it often looks like just a few very thin marks to tell you wear to scribble the colour, I think perhaps you need to make that element str...

Re: Hand Drawn Vrs Digital
Crispness is nice, but too often it translates into overkill and obviousness in unskilled hands. Digital color especially tends to look really garrish in webcomics. Could you give an example. I favour sketching by hand, and inking by hand most of the time (but not always), but I think it would be a...

Wow, what a dick way to say someone's comic is worthless! The internet, postmodernism in action. Ignore the fact the text quotes a previous poster in a context about if it is worth going beyond the basic protections that exist by default, that it refers to webcomics only in general and contains no ...

You wouldn't tell a guy he's foolish for putting locks on his doors, because his house has never been broken into. But you would if he lived in the remoter parts of Scotland, the most valuable thing in the house was a wooden clothes peg (without the spring), and the lock cost more than the property...
