The change I propose is a tiny one. Change the 'Outstanding' (as in 'Outstanding Comic') to 'Favourite'. I completely agree. To name just one example, Jdalton has been drawing this year things just as wonderful as the ones he drew last year. But this year fortunately more people knew about it. Like...

If we know that our votes are going to become public, then we are more likely to cast our vote for the purpose of pleasing others, rather than as a result of our own convictions. We might be less willing to vote for comics which are unpopular or contraversial, we might vote for certain comics which...

You know guys, I was ready to argue why suspense was worth sacrificing in favor of transparency, but after reading your posts here (specially about the risk of influenting votes via trends), I thought about it a little more, and maybe no sacrifices are needed after all: It wouldnt be any different t...

Voting Transparency
A humble proposal for next year: make the voting process automated and transparent. Its not hard to code, and yes, it can be done securely. I know this, cuz I do this kind of thing for a living, in fact, I volunteer to program the system myself if you need me to. An ideal system would have 1.- A reg...

Holy Cow, I -thought- I knew some comics, but I had no idea. From all the nominees for overall and newcomer, the only ones I had -ever- heard of was Templar Arizona and The Broken Mirror. (Girlgenius sounds familiar and so does Perry Bible Fellowship). Anyway, I agree the links need a <base target=_...

Each one of us is going to have a different opinion on what should stay, what should be added, and what should go. I have to confess it irks me a bit when I read comments like "people are stupid". People are people, and these are the Web Cartoonist Choice Awards. They're not the Smart-According-To-M...

Hmm.. .. (disclaimer: the following are my opinions only, and I may be misinformed, for instance, in assuming there are more slice of life comics than there are fantasy ones, etc) * About self-nomination: If there was only one spot per category, I would agree self-nominating is a bad thing. But thre...

To help others, here is a list of comics I’m nominating in various categories: Good idea! I'll copy paste my list from another forum, here goes: El's comics (Between Two Worlds and The Broken Mirror, usually both) are in my ballot for outstanding comic, newcomer, artist, writer, layout, color, char...

The trick might be for the reader to feel both like they're guiding the story, but also being told a story, getting to know characters and their world. Perhaps they should feel like they're the protagonist's best friend able to give advice, or the protagonist's conscience, selecting between the ang...

N I think the new version qualifies for use of the medium if nothing else. :) I'm not so sure about that. As I said, the new version would be best described as animation - but it would happily work in other media (ie: you could put it on a Video, or a DVD, or project it in a cinema) and the experie...
