Thanks for updating the link. Definitely not a situation where you want to surprise the bear. (not that you ever want to surprise a bear!) I have called work to say I had a moose between me and my car. Once I had a bear between me and my campsite. Don't know if it was the same one that chewed up the...

Backdated comics for March and April are up. New comic up May 9th, literally lost for years, my tribute to The Far Side.
Next comic after that May 23rd. The animated cartoon planned for May is being rescheduled due to technical problems.

All the Sunday strips were done in color using pen & ink, watercolor, gouache, acrylic, water-soluble & regular colored pencils, brush markers and airbrush. The Monday-Saturday comics were all black & white. I scanned them in and colored them in Corel Photopaint for the web. Some of them were never ...

Well, there's the Girdwood Forest Fair. The silver salmon runs are starting so my mind is on fishing. More special events are going on around the Summer Solstice. (June 21)

Update Schedule

As you've no doubt noticed, we are no longer updating daily or even Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday. My apologies for not announcing it beforehand. Various factors have led to a mini hiatus and a reduced schedule of weekly updates on Wednesdays. There may be another hiatus as a format change occu...

Thanks ArcticMage, couldn't have said it better myself. Fur rondy actually doesn't start until the 23rd. But that just makes Buck seem that much more clueless.

Sorry about being incommunicado. Health issues have kept me from being computer coherent regarding announcements. The strip is on semi-hiatus for the time being; updates may appear on Wednesdays. There is going to be a format change down the road and an animated special come King salmon season. I ju...

Well, they are Camp Alaska Tours so I don't think there's much of a conflict. I'm certainly not looking to swipe the domain name. Another case of life imitating art concerns Marsha's shop-at-home service, Wonderlife International . There actually is a nutritional supplement/weight loss outfit with t...

The movements for turning dough into dinner rolls are similar to the "wax on, wax off" training from the movie Karate Kid. Notice the instructor is wearing a Karate Gi and black belt. Some other students and I translated some of the repetitive movements into martial arts applications.

No connection to the strip. I found it on a search a month or two after the comic went online. If you look closely at the comic logo it says Buck & Edna's Camp Alaska. I found a bar/restaurant called Buck & Edna's in Idaho or Montana.

Early winter of 1989 I was working at Prudhoe Bay when the jet stream took a dip to the south. For awhile it was colder in Dallas than it was at Prudhoe. Then it went down to 30 below with 20-40mph winds.

Steve was born in Texas too. The character was originally Ernie Chumlein from Lakehurst, New Jersey for an urban fish-out-of-water feel.We decided the Texas/Alaska rivalry was better. A friend had a new roomate named Earl from Texas who pronounced "oil as "earl" and I couldn't resist the pun.

Re: what I think of the strip and howdy

First: I really enjoy the strip, and was sad to see it change to twice weekly. but I understand how busy folks can get. It went from daily to Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Check the archive for any you might have missed. Sorry it took a while to get in touch, I had a tagboard up for a long time ...

How we got here

This comic began as a marketing tool for Steve's mail order coffee company. It was envisioned as a monthly insert to go with the orders, to be called "Suburban Sourdough" The coffee company didn't get off the ground but the comic began developing a life of it's own. We renamed it "Buck & Edna" after...

If you're not in Alaska you might not get the joke. This is for your cheechako questions. Like what's a cheechako?
