From HOME FRIES POV you should be happy about there being more people strips than funny animals strips. Children have replaced talking animals for social comments. PEANUTS started the trend. Aaron McGruder has said Huey as a child can say or do things Huey could not if he was an adult. I wonder what...

I enjoy the strange humor of INVADER ZIM, Jack Cole and Steven Wright. I enjoy the word play of SHEEP IN THE BIG CITY, Jay Ward and George Carlin. I enjoy the humor of Mark Tonra (JAMES, TOP OF THE WORLD). I enjoy subtle satire of KING AROO. A good example of my personal style of humor is the writer...

I agree with Greg that your gag is fine. Andy could be alone in the house and the food could be an after school snack his Mom left him. It is easy to overthink gags. Now is the time to just do it and see how we react. As for the current storyline I didn't understand why the mechanic seemed so angry ...

Why is Andy alone?
Panel One: Family at dinner. MOM: I tried something different for dinner tonight. ALL THREE MALES AND THE DOG: Blech!
Panel Two: Later. Mom putting the rejected food down the garbage disposal. GARBAGE DISPOSAL: Blech!
Panel Three: The garbage disposal spits the food out cove...

I can read your new version ! While WebTV can handle some flash some newer versions are too much for it to handle. WebTV tends to be a few years behind technology. But I like the way it allows me to watch TV while surfing the web.

Thanks for the reply Greg. While you may not have a syndicate contract, your contact with people in the business makes you the expert among us here . I enjoy the quality of strips such as HOME FRIES. BTW Ron, I'm not ignoring PUBLIC EYES, but my W...

I like after-Christmas presents ! Question for Greg. In your contact with the syndicates decision makers, how important is it for the cartoonist to prove he or she can handle daily deadlines over a long period of time? I realize the syndicates loo...

The LA Times used to alternate all their panels as well as WIZARD OF ID and BC. Since most papers own the rights to more comics than they print it is possible to do this. Since so many panels are similar and feature random gags few readers notice that CLOSE TO HOME is in Thursday paper instead LOOSE...

Scott, this is your party you can rant if you want to Ever read DON QUIXOTE? In it the government declares Don Quixote insane and says its because he read too many books. The media and forms of entertainment are easy scapegoats. Example, pre-9/11...

I started to think about what comics would I call edgy. PEARLS BEFORE SWINE, OVER THE HEDGE, BC, BOONDOCKS, NON SEQUITUR, LIBERTY MEADOWS, 9 CHICKWEED LANE, and VOICES IN MY HAND. Many web comics test the boundaries of acceptable behavior of a comic. Not only with moral behavior but with the form it...

To me "edge" refers to the current boundaries. TV shows such as LAUGH IN and SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE, comedians such as Richard Pryor and George Carlin, comics such as KRAZY KAT, POGO, DOONESBURY, and BOONDOCKS all have pushed the limits of their format. SOMETHING ABOUT MARY was not an edgy movie becaus...

This gag would have followed the recent Lester walks the dog gag.
PANEL ONE: The family inside watch Lester walking the dog on a windy day. Walter: I hope my Dad is ok. Andy: I hope my dog is ok. Kristen: I hope the video store has a copy of WIZARD OF OZ.
There is a trend in today's comics to fe...

My gag suggestion or suggestion that gags... PANEL ONE: Andy and Kristen inside looking outside at the blizzard. Andy: Mom will you drive me to the mall? Kristen: No, you would have to be crazy to go out in that storm! PANEL TWO: Kristen moves away from window. Andy follows. They head towards our ri...
