I've heard that not even MST3K could make Manos enjoyable, that it's "so bad it's bad." I don't have the courage to find out, but I may rent an MST3K collection on general principle. Believe me, it's a million times better WITH the MST treatment than it could ever have been without it. A few quotes...

Wouldn't be surprising to find out it was true, either. I've been reading the Koran on and off for the past few years - it's slow going. Nothing but rants about how to be pure and clean (by washing your hands off with dirt? I realize they were in a desert, but -really-) and how Allah hates sinners ...

ah, hypocricy, we shall declare ourself independent, and justify it with these principles, but then we shall live in opposition to them (or, as Rincewind put it in The Interesting Times "Revolution changes nothing, the leaders are always in power" altough i may have misremembered the excact wording...

Call me crazy... (music contributions)

...but ever since I heard the original version of "Telstar," surf rock seems to be a vastly underrated potential source of scoring inspiration for science fiction films. I mean, I know it's generally fast and loud, but most of it also has an eerie, echoey sound and melodic sensibility that seems to ...

There's a part about airplanes in here that - oh, you'll see. The whole thing not only stretches credibility to the breaking point, it actively TEARS it in half.

Actually, he converted to Islam. -:D He converted to SOMETHING, that's for sure, but from what I can tell his religious beliefs are a mishmash of Christianity, Gnosticism, Islam, Judaism and Zoroastrianism. Note that he produces most of this highly enlightening material just before, or overlapping ...

Wait, if it was non-canon then where the crap did Piff come from? Piff was introduced in the leadup to the climax of that arc.

Ah, who cares. I think the MST3K mantra applies: "It's just a [comic strip] - I should really just relax."

I've been trying and trying to figure out who Penny reminds me of, and I think I finally got it: She's a furry version of my future sister in law. I kid you not. Same black hair, same monochromatic clothes, same parental issues, same I Can Be Pretty Nice As Long As You Don't F__k With Me attitude.

The promethian systems, like the American colonies, were far enough from the central government to hold out a hope of a successful rebellion. If England had had ships that could cross the Atlantic in less than four days, we'd have lost the revolution too. And re: the Civil War thing: I have an acqu...

For the record, I don't think Velvet looks like a Jack-esque goblin as much as...I don't know, the kind of "lovable" monsters that might be on a Saturday morning cartoon special (I can't think of a specific show). You know, where the normally frightening monsters are just friendly comic relief? EDI...

The creepiest thing in this essay was the hypothesis that Dave's virtuosity with depicting Cerebus' thought processes is actually a reflection of his own. I'll save you some time looking through that NOVEL of an essay and spill it. Dave Sim frequently, throughout the series, depicts Cerebus' brain a...

Not to mention two of the ingredients used in producing saltpeter the old-fashioned way.

Alternatively, there's Natron, most famous from Egypt, where it's mined from dry lake beds. It's a mix of sodium bicarbonate and sodium carbonate (with a little sodium chloride and sodium sulfate), and makes a good desiccant (drying agent) and antiseptic... just ask any mummy. Also turns castor oil...

Re: Request for Prayer: the Dawson College Shooting

On Wednesday September 13, during the day, a troubled young man walked into Dawson College in Montreal, and began shooting randomly at people, until he was shot by the Police about 15 minutes later, before he finally committed suicide moments later. There's one confirmed death amongst the students,...
