ESR: Engrish as a Secund Ranguedge
ESR is inspired by engrish, unintentional humor from mispelling of words. I tried to make it foreignly bizzare and nonsensical. Also check the site for ispiration, which gave me the most, http://www.engrish.com http://www.jamesmarstudio.com/ESRthumb.jpg http://www.jamesmarstudio.com/esr.html (sorry,...

Self Publishing?
Can anyone recommend some good self publishing companies? I went with comixpress.com. It takes a long long time for them to print your comic, like two, three months or more but they have good customer service and will reply when you bug them. And it's easy to setup. The quality's good. They're slow ...

This is a juicy subject for me. Most of my comic characters are pretty much exclusively Chinese. I'm all for diversity, but I'm Chinese American and I like seeing more of my own race and culture in comics and entertainment in general so I made them myself. I don't see many Chinese American comics th...

Well, these seem more like a statement of how comics are currently being used rather than a limitation on their potential. Nothing says a comic couldn't be made for the same reasons and with the same quality as artwork in a museum. And why should "being made to display in a gallery" determine the q...

Yeah, but now that they are being displayed in museums and are actively discussed critically in art journals... that does change their status? To art critics, it may. Perhaps art journals are just becoming more open to dissecting low brow. Also considering the populairty of comic art, perhaps they'...

I don't see comics as high art. They're cheap commercial ways to tell stories or jokes. They can be as intelligent or relevant as anything but they're not being made for art's sake or to display in a gallery. Relative to classical art, comics is a more recent discipline. I think Cathy Guiswite is a ...

What do you guys think of these comic sherpa comics? http://www.comicsherpa.com Most of them are kind of clunky but some aren't too bad.

Johnny "Dai" Goh
What can I say about Johnny "Dai" Goh? He's like a wanna-be tough guy. Almost like a Chinese version of the Fonz, only more bold and direct I guess. He's a guy that imposes himself on others. It's a comic strip. http://jamesmarstudio.com/JGthumb.jpg http://www.jamesmarstudio.com/johnny.html (Sorry! ...

Bryan and Anita
My experimental venture into the romance genre. People may find it cheesy, corny, and thus nauseating, but I like the challenge and variety. It's mostly different from anything I've ever tried. To define the characters loosely, Bryan Woo is the one who loves to love and Anita Yu is the one who loves...

Playin' to yer Readers?
Who dictates your comic work, you or your audience? When creating what I'm creating, I'm mindful that someone's going to read it, but in reality, it's mostly a result of my own likings. I show off a lot of comic strips that are intentionally of various genres and various flavors. Showing off 7 comic...

Online Comic Audiences
I get the feeling that most people surfing and reading online comics are mostly young adults. And thus, most comics cater to this audience. But is there any place on the internet where young kids surf online? Anyone know of any good places where I can freely show them some comics?

No, I don't think about coloring. Black and white is less work, it transfers better on B&W xerox copiers, and I want my physical art to match what's on the computer so I'm antsy over digital paint bucket coloring. At one point, I did get myself a keenspace account, but one of my computer illiteracie...

I actually ripped the title off of a movie called "Instant Kung Fu Man". Never saw the movie, but I loved that title too. I can't really stuff in a whole lot of action into one strip. So I didn't do more opponents or more elaborate moves. Besides, I always felt these simple one knockouts were ...

Thanks for the comments. Yeah, I know it's kind of shallow, heavily relying on a one type of slapstick gag type of deal. It's tough thinking up variations. It's almost like a Spy vs. Spy, Tom and Jerry, Roadrunner/Wily Coyote thing. With a title like"Instant Kung Fu Girl", however, I felt oblieged t...

Instant Kung Fu Girl
For some reason, this seems to be my most popular strip. THE INSTANT KUNG FU GIRL is a woman who tries to live the ordinary life but constantly encounters situations that call for her to use her learned ability to squelch the problem immediately. From the mundane to the unusual, she utilizes her spe...

She doesn't really have a site with all her strips, but I like Deb Aoki's work.
