Loudon Wainwright's done a lot of songs about his kids (although the only one that comes to mind off the top of my head is Rufus Is A Tit Man) John Lennon - Beautiful Boy David Bowie - Kooks Beach Boys - When A Man Needs A Woman (written to Brian Wilson's unborn son, who turned out to be a daughter)...

Same here. Online, you can use anything you want, but print is a LOT more restrictive. I have a minicomic I just finished (the Iohan & Jessica storyline that's running right now) that I saved once in grayscale and once in 2-color B&W using GIMP's newsprint filter to handle the grayscale. At 600 DPI...

My uncle's published two (text) books with them and has had absolutely no complaints. The quality of the printing is excellent and he recommends them highly. I'm planning on using them for both my comic when it's done, and for a 'proper' book I'm writing...

I use greyscale because I want to print the comic at some point as a graphic novel, and colour would be prohibitively expensive when self-publishing. Plus, I actually think the art looks better that way than in full colour...

In my case I was reading some of the notes in Dave Sim & Gerhard's Latter Days collection about what Sim planned to do after Cerebus finally finished, and about photorealistic art and using photo-reference. I started thinking how Sim could do a really, *really* good non-fiction comic, and then thoug...

Yep. Manual update hasn't helped.
What I mean is that when I go into the FTP, the images and .txt files are all still there. It's just when I try to actually open the pages on the site that I get 404 errors.

Site Problems

I've got net access back after 6 months offline, *finally*, and am planning to update my comic tomorrow or saturday, but all pages between the first one and the one before last have disappeared. The files are still there, but when clicking on the pages there's a 404 error.

The Fall - Impression Of J Temperance Like most Fall stuff, this shows the influence of 60s garage stuff, being based on a one-chord bass riff (sounds like the bass is being doubled by moog, but it may just have been split between two different effects) and martial drums. Sounds like something The M...

And a Fall song would actually have been better - I like the Fall a lot (I'm in Manchester, it's a legal obligation) and if I didn't already have the track my mate Ste would have...

Yeah, there are story arcs in Cerebus, but most of them last a lot longer than 150 pages - Dave Sim once devoted an entire 20-page issue to Cerebus taking a piss...

I tend to prefer fast pacing, as I have the attention span of a gnat, but at the same time there's nothing wrong with leaving questions unanswered. My favourite comic, Cerebus, had plot threads started in 1977 that didn't wrap up until the mid-90s (and the full story didn't end til this year) and wh...

Given that treatment with Vitamin C can cure a large number of cancers, including many of the main killers, and is far more effective that chemo- or radiotherapy, but it remains almost totally unused in cancer treatment, I strongly suspect that any and all attempts to 'find a cure for cancer' are us...

It's a lot better to make fun of the French for something that has some basis in reality though. The American 'the French always surrender' crap is particularly ridiculous when you realise that the French lost more soldiers in one battle in World War I than America has lost in all the wars in its hi...

Comic Tag

Not sure if this would be better to post in dropdowns and crossovers or here... I'm not sure if this has been done before, but I was just thinking it would be interesting to do a narrative comic where a large number of people take it in turns to do a page (or maybe a couple of pages). You have a sel...

I'm pretty sure it *is* spam, as a word-for-word identical post turned up on half a dozen Livejournal communities today... And it's hardly publication - the distribution system seems to consist of sending copies to a bunch of other comic creators who might or might not get a copy into their local co...
