By "shoddy" backgrounds, I meant like one line as the horizon and that being it. A good backgroud can be something the artists draws new every panel, takes hours to work on, and is more critically acclaimed and well-drawn than a Van Gogh or a Monet, or it can be a carefully placed tree in a snow set...

Re: ANYWHERE BUT HERE - Earth Shaking Annoucement

He was a mega nobody. It's a rare occurance to know someone when they were a mega nobody but I can say that I did. I'm his number one fan. Like that crazy woman in Misery. Jason, if you want, you can come stay with me over the winter months. And if I break your ankles it doesn't affect your drawing...

Calvin and Hobbes? Maybe a shrubbery to let you know they're outdoors or a swingset to establish you're on a playground. http://www.ucomics.com/calvinandhobbes/1995/01/02/ Are you crazy? Watterson was famous for his brush, especially with his trees. His background were often very rich and detailed,...

Jeffy wrote: Well, by not having backgrounds, by what you say, people will like the comic less, which you prevent by having backgrounds. Sounds like a win for backgrounds to me.
What I meant was that people do not appreciate backgrounds nearly as much as they appreciate character drawings is all.

Do: spend time on backgrounds. It impresses people. I've found that this is always a lose-lose situation. Draw a shoddy background, or no background at all, and people yell at it. Draw a good background, and nobody says anything, because it just feels right and natural to them, no matter how many h...

You are now being paid $10,000 a week to draw ABH, no matter the quality, so "entirely by coincidence" the strip is now about a mute stick.

Don't copy and paste. If you want to create a comic just as a vessel for your jokes and storytelling, cartooning may not be right for you. Try being a comedian or a writer. Art that changes and evolves makes a webcomic more dynamic and more pleasing to the eye, and it sets it apart from the norm. D...

Hey guys, There is some HUGE news on the horizon. Two pieces of it in fact. Major, massive, earth shattering, world ending news on the horizon.
Just replace news with missiles and it is so obvious.

Abode Illustrator help

I have always found that the Illustrator tutorials are very practical - it's great that I can create a 3D-like bowl of fruit, but how many applications will this have later? So, I haven't found much Illustrator help for my needs. This is why I turn to you. This is what I can do so far (I used the br...

I started drawing a comic which uses semi-puppets. Basically, for the first strips I draw what is needed, such as backgrounds, characters, etc. Whenever a new background is needed or a new pose/character is needed for a strip I draw it as well. Every single pose/background/whatever goes into this hu...

However all these cost money. If you are broke and can't aquire it through other channels, I'd suggest a posterboard or big roll of newsprint, a sharpie and sticky notes. And just for the record... Keynote is free. ... :D ... I already said that, but just in case your forgot after reading it five s...
