Re: Stats page not updating.

Google Analytics is actually much better than what we had before. I like it. This is what my HTML looks like that got it to work: <div class="keen_ad" style="display:inline;"> ***advertisement*** <script type="text/javascript"> var pageTracker = _gat._getTracker("XX-XXXXXXX-X"); pageTracker._initDat...

Re: Does this look as bad as I think it does?

You might have already done some of these, but here goes: Put a white piece of paper behind the page when scanning. That won't help any of the specifics you are wrestling with here but is a good idea. Try holding the lid down with your hand while scanning to squash out the shadows. Low tech but effe...

Re: Webcomic Hosts - know any? (Not Spam)

I got an account on Webcomplanet. I like the options but there are some issues with the FAQs and tutorials not reflecting the actual workings of the site! Get ready to experiment on this one.

Re: Thoughts on starting over

For a more substantive answer: to a certain extent I need a public creative outlet. If it wasn't Marianne it would have to be something else; I'm just happier when creating and telling stories to people. That's where it has to begin. Yeah, I check my stats but just the joy of getting something up th...

Re: Thoughts on starting over

I trashed my webcomic site but I posted three new comics recently. Trying to get back in the swing of things. I used to be named Stephen Henderson-Grady of Pirate Queen Marianne; I renamed it to just Marianne.

Re: Hand Drawn Vrs Digital

I am amazed that younger people could actually be better with a tablet than with paper. Makes me feel old, really. I feel like I'm drawing with boxing gloves on with the tablet.

My advice: use paper, don't erase. Eventually you'll make fewer mistakes to begin with.

Just out of curiosity, why can't you draw non-digital?

Re: copyrighting...

I don't know what country you are in. If you are in the USA, don't both registering a copyright unless you make money on your webcomic. Just put a little © at the bottom of your images (because you already have a copyright on all creative works) and send nasty emails to people if they use your stuff...

Re: Hand Drawn Vrs Digital

If you are using blacks lines to communicate your art then the tools available for the computer right now have only a tiny fraction of the nuance available to ink on paper. I say this as someone who has tried to duplicate ink on paper on a computer many times. It just isn't controlled enough for my ...

Hey, Ping :D It seems that this is the time for the 'come-backers' right now .. nice to see you still in around here ;) Yo. Stephen Henderson-Grady here. Used to do a comic called Pirate Queen Marianne. Guess what? Today, I put a panel up. The comic has come back from the dead! Might want to wait a...

Re: Trying out computer lettering again...

Hand lettering is sort of inherently superior for hand drawn comics. I think you should continue to do it. (Your comic is charming, by the way.)

Re: Originality in characters

Having simple non-descript characters is a device. The success and failure will lie with your jokes. I agree with that. If you are going "just funny jokes" then you better be damn sure your jokes are so devastatingly hilarious that you don't need compelling characters to bring people back. I think ...

Good book about Christianity, well liked by non-Christians:

Wise Blood, by Flannery O'Connor. She is Catholic specifically.

And I do mean that seriously.
I'm no Christian, but I think that Kevin Smith's reliance on the apocrypha would make Dogma a little too far from what mainstream Christians believe.

You think that's impressive? I once came across the website of a guy who preached that any music that was not a cappella was sinful to listen to, even including Christian artists. Musical instruments are all evil, I tells ya! The Church of Christ has a non-instrumental music tradition. Very conserv...

James Randi is very against religion. He thinks it keeps humanity from reaching its potential and says so in as many words at the end of "The Faith Healers."

Stuff like this....this is crap. You all know it. We all know it. The only one who apparently did'nt get the memo is some whacko cartoonist from what I'm guessing is one of the southern states. Why would you assume that the creator is from a southern state? (And southern state of what? Europe? Mexi...
