For me, the smoothest and strongest lines typically come from scanning as a colour photo at 100% size at 600 dpi and then changing the resolution and resizing (in Photoshop). Any lower resolution than that and the lines become somewhat jaggy, though sharper - any higher and it's overkill and sometim...

Character info pages! What to write?
Hey guys! I'm recently coming back to my comic after about a year's leave and have been thinking of making some additions to the website. I was thinking of adding some of those spiffy 'character info' or 'about the comic' pages many comics have. I've never done one so I'm not sure what to include, e...

Or on the other hand, your readers could marvel at just how much your art style has evolved. I, personally, find it interesting to look back at how a comic's art has changed over time. It also makes me curious as to what direction it will go in the future. My art level hasn't changed too drastically...

Go with English unless the rest of your comic is in Japanese. The problem with Japanese sound effects done by a non-Japanese speaker is that the language has so many onomatopoeias and variations that you'll likely end up with quite a few awkward or inappropriate sound effects that make no sense in t...

Can't edit Guide info... 404 error?
Hey guys.. this might seem like a stupid question :) But how do you edit the guide info to your comic? You know, like the author name, comic country, the stuff it's about.... those kinds of things. Every time I try to clink on the 'edit guide info' link in the guide, I get a 404 error. Is there some...

Name: I call myself Spectral Fox. Location: Sapporo Age: 18 or so Yeah, I've been reading 8:1 since it's come out. It's really inspiring in a depressive.. kind of way, and one of the few comics that I can relate to. At the least, it's a good reminder that there are other cynical, world-weary types o...

You've got an interesting idea here. Too bad the art hasn't caught up yet, though it's improved a lot since the first strip. I agree that your characters might like to be less stiff. Another thing I must comment on is your general lack of backgrounds. In some of your panels it's okay, but in others ...

Not bad... :) amusing, though a bit confusing at times (look, mommy- I can rhyme! :P). However, at this point it still strikes me as similar to the other many other comics out there about depressed, lonely artist guys who can't get laid. But your art is rather strong... could see it rising above the...

Haha... it's not even so much that I've written to them in a corner or don't know how to continue; I could easily continue with the current story, but I find the theme so boring now that I don't even want to deal with it. I guess when I started this thing I wanted to do an emotional, character-cente...

The blue may give a more serious, low-key kind of look, but it creates too little contrast with the other dark colours. This shade of blue may be either too dark or too desaturated, because it gives the picture a flat, unremarkable look. Red, however, adds some vital contrast here that really attrac...

How to continue with a botched-up story?
Hello, there, fellow artists. I have a rather strange question... Well, first of all, I quit working on my comic about a year ago due to lack of time, and in the past few months or so I've been yearning to return to it. However, though I'm in love with my characters, I no longer have interest in the...

In my opinion, the screen tones seem to work well with your comic, especially with your style. Just keep in mind to vary them... and that it's not necessary to shade the same object/piece of scenery uniformly through all the panels it appears in. If you lightened up on the tones a bit, and focused m...

What I do is take a picture of a background I like and START with that. Don't draw anything before hand (b/c it may not fit right later). Then I print it out and tape a pice of blank paper to it, slip it on to my tracing board (like omg) and copy some of the contours of the bg to my blank sheet. 1)...

Backgrounds are a pain in the ass sometimes, but it makes everything look real and not lazy. It took me 800 years to draw this page and the few that follow, but it looks better than if I would've faked it. Woaaaah. I seriously envy your persistence on that one. I've sometimes become so lazy with ba...

Checked out your comic (Heaven in your Eyes, right?), and I have to say that your backgrounds seem fine to me. Beyond fine. The nice thing about comics, especially manga style, is that you can fudge details. Sometimes having anything but a blank background makes the panel too busy. Or shading can d...

When the background just doesn't come to you...
...What to do? :-? I've struggled with this same problem over and over again, whenever I take to either writing a comic or drawing/painting something. So I get a decent-looking foreground, some appropriate-looking props here and there, but no matter how hard I try, I just can't come up with an appro...
