It's not an art critique, but I have to point out that the file size seems a bit large for b&w in the image size you're using. Might want to check on ways to reduce the png size, or even use a different format. I think your comic should be coming in under 100k easy.

Overall, I like it. Some of it made me laugh, other jokes I didn't get, but that was probably because they were targeted at a certain audience. The pattern on the kilt is kind of cheap looking because it goes in it's own direction, and is an obvious PS texture. It sort of works for now in a cheap so...

The way I do it is set the lineart to "multiply" which is available sometimes by different names in programs other than photoshop. Then I create a layer behind it for flat colors. Then a third layer for backgrounds. For shading, you can select the flat colors with a magic wand and gradient them in a...

It's really interesting to see how good you've become. I just came back to this site recently, but I remember looking over your stuff a long time ago. (It could have been as much as two years ago...) The cool thing is that your style never changed, even as you picked up skill. I mean, nobody else's ...

I've been thinking about going to Home Depot and just making my own light box. It doesn't seem like it would be that hard or that expensive. I just got an old school wacom serial tablet that I was going to ink the pencils with, but it's not quite working out.

For better software, the full version of PS is pretty pricey, even with a student discount. But for most web-comic stuff, Photoshop Elements works fine and it's way cheaper. I actually think Pain Shop Pro is better than elements, and it's around the same price.

That is some high end work you've got there. Damn. The colored stuff has a very CrossGen kind of feel to it. I'll definitely look for you at the SDCC next week.

I'd suggest you mess with the color balances and such to keep everything looking like one cohesive piece and not just somebody too lazy to draw backgrounds. Same goes for your shading and perspective. If the characters are at a low angle and your photo is high angle, it will just look plain wrong. I...

Thanks everybody. I'm gonna take it slow and see what happens. I think I was just seeing how steady some of the webcomics I read (yours included, Phalanx) are in their updates and thinking "am I way below the mark on updating?" In fact, it seems that consistency increases a lot with experience. And ...

Section 3!

So I've had my comic up since January and I'm about to start on the first actual story-oriented series of pages. I decided to get to about this many pages before I started moving forward. What's up so far has been pretty experimental for me, a learn as you go thing. What it seems like to me though, ...

I think our computers are our soulmates and all we can hope for in terms of human relationships is 'someone that doesnt piss you off that much' I hope that isn't true for me because ever since I got Windows XP, my comp has been getting all kinds of viruses. :o Seriously, I'm actually liking the sin...

Ah, c'mon, guys, last time I got kissed in a cheek was a few days before new year's (this new years) and although it wasn't a start of something, it wasn't totally platonic either... ...you make me look like a stud or something. I'm not gay, but almost all of my friends are girls or gay guys...hmm.
So you're either latently homosexual, or an excellent strategist.

Found an old pic of me when I had my goofy nu-metal hair. I kind of miss it. I don't miss the kind of maintenance hair that long required.

I think the best way for you to improve right now would be to start drawing actual people, the way others have suggested. I don't think it's your grasp of anatomy that's at the root of the problem as much as it is the way you construct their poses. I could be way off, but it seems like you're doing ...

lol, but how do you really feel about Teen Titans? Anyway, I don't think there should be any problems regarding vulgarity as long as you keep it mostly consistent and don't suddenly turn the comic into a hentai xxxfest or something. When I see a web-14 rating, I'm thinking mostly of a Futurama/Famil...

The WB Batman cartoons of the last few years have been an influence on me too. When you say "influenced by" it makes more sense. I can definitely see a general cartoon influence in your work. Another cartoon besides samurai jack that you call to mind is Teen Titans. That's what I think of first, sin...

The main Macromedia site should have a learning section with tutorials and the like, if you haven't already checked there. I haven't used Flash in a long time, but if I remember correctly, dropping filesizes was similar to when you do the same thing with video. Lowering audio resolutions, minimum ac...
