But as for those who worked hard to be called wizards, I don't think they should be so pained to have that title replaced, as long as it's a title you have to work equally hard to get. I think it's because you worked so hard to acheive something, then that thing changes on you. They worked hard to ...

I would toss in my two cents and say that even staunch Christian writers like J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis used magic in their stories so the use or non-use of magic isn't neccesarily indicative of the author's spiritual views. Also, I really feel for that young wizard in brown on the bottom left. ...

It was predictable. Even inevitable. The party which wrongly calls itself "Democratic" controls our news media, our entertainment media, our public education system, our colleges, most large corporations, our state department, our supreme court, a large segment of our religious institutions, our we...

I don't think you grasp what sort of damage one of those ships could do. Assume the Rebel Cry weighs, oh, close to the amount the space shuttle does(same approximate size.) The shuttle weighs in at 4.5 million pounds, counting the tank and boosters, so we'll say, what, a million pounds..... or 500 ...

[Redirected from another post] MORE TALES FROM 'REBEL CRY' BACKGROUND CHARACTERS *** Mikhail Dragoslav started out his media career with V-27A News with high hopes. That was his first mistake. His second was accepting the post of on the spot reporter. Especially considering what happened to his pred...

I assume you're referring to the series of books by Harry Turtledove? If not, find and read them. (I haven't, but I've read a number of other works of his, so I still make the reccommendation.) That's the one all right. I found that the history he worked out as being fairly probable, had the South ...

Forgive my bluntness but I'm wondering if we aren't dancing around the main point. Namely, would things have been better or worse had the Civil War ended differently? I admit to not being as well versed as I once was on the Civil War (or whatever you wish to call it) but there are a few (probable) t...

Having the tech, but being stupid about its use, will not win a war. True. But I would point out that the USSR made a superior tank in the T-34 and despite having dunderheads in the officers corps (kudos of Stalin's brutal purges of virutally every officer who had a clue about what they were doing)...

*cough cough* Um, we never had our own planet. -:D We got the nickname because the first time the Draconis Combine crossed katanas with us, a reporter said we chased them off "like spirited Eridani stallions chasing after fat Luthien cows". -:) I'm aware, but Eridani is still a real name of a real ...

Is Revolution the proper term for 1776, though? Was there really an American Revolution? A revolution generally is aimed at toppling and replacing an existing government or form of government, like France in 1789 or Russia in 1917. There was never any goal of, say, toppling the government of George ...

P.S. Dragoslav, where's Stranya Mechty or Arc Royal on that map? :P At LEAST put on Tharkad or New Avalon. ;) But leave Sian off. :D Dang Cappies. I decided not to be THAT blatant and didn't use capital or crucial worlds. I only used Luthien and Dieron because I like the sounds of their names. Now ...

Precisely. My current model of the Federation is of about 20-30 starsystems (of varying inhabitance) spread out inside a sphere of about 12.5 light year radius--- with Promethius I and Promethius II flung out pretty far from the main grouping, on their own. Now, they do have FTL drives..... however...

The reason why those trouser-stains are so fond of drawing the damn swastika and SS uniform is that they are powerful and terrifying images. This actually came up in another post, but someone brought up the instance of captured soldiers giving a "Hawaiian good-luck charm" when they were being photographed and their captors didn't know any different. The guy who brought it up said it was Vietnam too, but I'm pretty sure that incident was ...

Yeah, like American POWs greeting their captors on live TV, giving them the "Hawaiian good luck sign", and the Vietnamese smiling and laughing and saying, "See, they're happy and well-treated!" (Hint, the Hawaiian good luck sign involves a particular finger and is used regularly by New York-trained...
