There are other factors which can have an effect on a city's crime rate: A culture of violence, for instance, would account for the high rate of violent crime in the Middle East. A similar culture also accounts for the high rate of crime in Washington DC. Perhaps Toronto isn't blessed with a populat...

The Hollow Wood Hearties!
Looks like they're going for the big band sound. The foxes are all horns, the squirrels are high-strung and keyed-up, the mice have come out with a woodwind, and the rabbits are kicking it off...!
Words are fun to play with. Sometimes I can't stop myself.

OT: Happy New Year!
In the spirit of the occasion... I'd offer bottles of my carefully made and aged homebrewed ale, but I haven't figured out how to attach them to emails. D: Burns’ verse: Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to mind ? Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and auld lang syne ? CHORUS: F...

Maybe the farmer is hoping Quentyn can solve his problems with his "magic". In truth, even if Quentyn could raise cattle from the stones of the ground for the farmer, those cattle would only be taken by the Duke's men, to help support the ongoing oppression of the people. Until a people stop serving...

Thanks Tom. Finally something we can work on. Hey, you made me sign up the board, just for this (and I really didnt want to, being a liberal European Normalguy - I fear posting in this Forum would be like swimming in a Piranha Tank). If Ralph can do 2/week till June, theres 50 Dollars going in his ...

All the protesters can legally do is walk up and down the sidewalk (they cannot block the sidewalk) chanting and carrying signs. They can't hinder people entering or leaving the place at all, or they enter the jurisdiction of the local police. Personally, I think they should be ignored. But unfortun...

P.S. By the way, if 50% of the earners pay 99% of the income tax... Where does the 34% from the top 1% come from? I'm guessing that's a typo. I trimmed most of your post from here because it wasn't worth a reply. However, as a favor to you, I ask you to study the last part of your statement, which ...

I have an innovative idea for resolving Illegal Immigration from Mexico... ...Annex Mexico, and make it the 51st state. Then, all of those people wanting to come into the US to find jobs won't be a matter of immigration, but a simple commute problem. And we'll be able to easily place American compa...

I was referring to the idea that all the livestock had been taxed by the local lord in the original post on the thread. I am well aware of that. You created your new side-tangent starting from my own comment. The primary question was "Why are the farm animals all gone in this comic?" Not "A study o...

Is that "big calendar" thing a keenspace trick?
It sure isn't HTML.
Ah, I'm guessing it's in here somewhere. I can't access it, not being a member.

I read somewhere that, as a percentage of our wealth, we are actually taxed MORE than a Medieval peasant. Probably the reason we stand it is because first, we are a lot wealthier than that Medieval peasnt, and second, we are still a republic and so have SOME say in how our taxes are spent. Eh, poss...

Yeek! Pitty lights!
The farmer's wife had almost got over her panic... And now, levitating sweet-rolls! Well, bread is supposed to rise, after all. I wonder where this story's going, with the missing animals? They can't have been gone more than a few months, since there's still fresh hay in the barn. Disease? Monsters?...

It was predictable. Even inevitable. Not to mention the weather... I swear, one drop of water hits the road and everyone starts driving like their car will explode if it goes over 20 MPH. It took me forty minutes to get home tonight thanks to overcautiousness. At least its not as bad as here in Wichita, a flake of snow or raindrop hit...
